Description*1859She was described as Obituary in Durham Chronicle 1859 for Charlotte Ayre nee Cordner. This obituary seems rather fanciful and many of the claims do not seem to be supported by the facts. With regard to the Red Barn Murder story Maria Marten was born on 24th July 1801 and James was discharged from the Durham Fencibles in June 1802. This would suggest that the two girls were unlikely to have been playmates in the sense suggested in the obituary. James of course also appears in the Muster Rolls in various non commissioned ranks and not in charge of any company. in 1859.12
