    DEATH OF MR W. CORDNER.

    The death is announced of Mr William Cordner, of 3, Athol-terrace. Sunderland, at an advanced age. The deceased gentleman originally came from Penshaw, and during the thirty years he has been in Sunderland he carried on business as a coal merchant and contractor. At one time he acted as managing partner of the firm of Close and Co., ironfounders, Millfield, and was also engaged in a deal of work for the Marquis of Londonderry and Sir George Elliot. A week last Saturday the late Mr Cordner was out as usual, but on that occasion he contracted a severe cold, which led to his somewhat unexpected death on Good Friday. Mr Cordner was an ardent Conservative.
